Fertiliser Factory Destroyed 90% In Overnight Fire Near Monterez

Date:

A fertiliser processing and motor oil storage facility was 90 per cent destroyed in a fire along Jalan Bukit Cherakah, Section U9, near Monterez Golf Club, last night.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the 40-by-100-foot premises suffered extensive damage, although no casualties or injuries were reported.

He said the cause of the fire and the estimated losses were still being investigated.

“Firefighters received an emergency call at 10.49pm before the first team from the Bukit Jelutong Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location 10 minutes later,” he said in a statement today.

Initial checks found that the blaze involved a Class B building used for fertiliser processing and the storage of vehicle engine oil.

A total of 25 officers and firefighters, along with assets from the Bukit Jelutong, Sungai Buloh, Shah Alam and Klang Utara fire stations, were deployed to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading.

The firefighting operation was also supported by 22 members from four Volunteer Fire Brigades (PBS) based in Saujana Utama, Rantau Panjang, Klang (Briged Amal) Kampung Delek and Serdang.

Ashrul Riezal said the fire was brought under control at 11.23pm before being fully extinguished at 1.25am.

Firefighters then carried out overhaul operations to ensure no remaining embers could reignite the premises.
