A routine morning MRT journey turned into a scene of panic after a rat suddenly appeared inside a train carriage, sending several passengers scrambling to get out of its way.
A video circulating on social media showed the rodent darting between commuters’ feet before appearing to jump towards some passengers, prompting them to move away in alarm.
The unusual incident quickly attracted attention online, with users debating how the rat could have entered the train and highlighting the importance of keeping public transport facilities clean.
One social media user, Hayyadt, said the incident showed why passengers should follow rules prohibiting food and drinks inside trains, as leftover food could attract pests.
Another user, Tiredramisu, who said they were already frightened of rats, joked that they would have clung to the train’s handrail like Spider-Man if they had encountered the animal.
The passengers’ frantic reactions also became a source of amusement for some netizens, with one user joking that the rat itself appeared frightened after suddenly finding itself trapped inside a moving train.
“Where did Mickey Mouse come from?” the user quipped, suggesting the rodent may have been just as surprised by the unexpected surroundings.
The incident also prompted a response from Rapid KL, which reminded passengers to play their part in maintaining cleanliness on public transport.
Rapid KL urged commuters not to eat or drink inside trains, saying food scraps could attract pests such as rodents.
The operator also appealed for passengers’ cooperation in keeping train carriages clean, as proper hygiene remains important in preventing pest-related incidents on public transport.
