35-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies After Crashing Into Fuel-Stranded Lorry In Tumpat

A 35-year-old motorcyclist died after he reportedly crashed into the rear of a lorry that had run out of fuel and was parked along the roadside in Jalan Kota Bharu-Pengkalan Kubor near the Wakaf Bharu flyover here on Sunday.

The fatal accident occurred at around 5pm when the victim, who was riding a Yamaha 135LC, was travelling from Kota Bharu towards Pengkalan Kubor.

Tumpat District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Khairi Shafie said police were alerted to the incident by the Tumpat District Police Headquarters (IPD) Operations Room at around 5.30pm.

Preliminary investigations found that the crash happened as the victim was navigating a bend near the Wakaf Bharu flyover.

“The victim is believed to have collided with the rear right section of the lorry, which had been left parked on the left shoulder after running out of fuel.

“The impact caused severe injuries to the victim’s chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel,” Mohd Khairi said in a statement on Monday.

The victim’s body was subsequently taken to Tumpat Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The cause of death was confirmed as multiple fatal injuries due to a motor vehicle accident.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Mohd Khairi also urged anyone with information about the accident to assist the investigation by contacting the Tumpat Traffic Police at 09-7257222 or visiting the Tumpat IPD Traffic Office.

He reminded all road users to remain vigilant, exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to help prevent similar tragedies.
