19-Year-Old Farmer Killed After Motorcycle Hits SUV Following Collision With Civet

Date:

A 19-year-old farmer was killed after the motorcycle he was riding skidded and collided with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) after hitting a civet along Kilometre 23 of Jalan Ibam-Rompin on Saturday night.

The victim, Zaki Abu, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, which occurred at around 8.40pm.

Rompin District Police Chief Superintendent Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the accident involved a Honda RS150R ridden by the victim and a Honda CR-V driven by a 40-year-old man.

Initial investigations found that the Honda CR-V was travelling from Rompin towards Ibam, while Zaki was riding in the opposite direction, from Ibam towards Rompin.

“Upon reaching the location, the Honda CR-V was travelling straight in its lane when it collided with the victim’s motorcycle, which had skidded into its path after hitting a civet,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

The impact claimed the motorcyclist’s life at the scene, while the Honda CR-V driver escaped without injuries. The victim’s body was later taken to Hospital Muadzam Shah for a post-mortem examination.

Sharif Shai said the accident occurred on a straight, two-way road with a broken centre line. The road surface was flat and dry, while weather conditions were favourable at the time, although the area had no street lighting.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
