BN’s Melaka Election Partner Could Be Revealed After Aug 28 Umno Meeting

Date:

Barisan Nasional’s (BN) political partner for the upcoming Melaka state election could be revealed following the Umno Supreme Council meeting scheduled for Aug 28.

Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said political cooperation would likely be among the key matters discussed during the meeting, with the party expected to consider the direction of its partnership ahead of the state polls.

“We will wait for the Supreme Council meeting on Aug 28. God willing, there will be a good decision for the people of Melaka,” he said.

Akmal did not dismiss the possibility that the meeting could produce a decision on which political coalition will work with BN in the Melaka election. The matter is being closely watched as parties prepare their respective strategies for the polls.

Previously, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi indicated that the existing understanding between BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) would continue in Melaka.

Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan (PH) has also established a committee to explore possible cooperation with BN in the state. PH election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has been tasked with leading the discussions on behalf of the coalition.

The upcoming Umno meeting could therefore provide a clearer picture of BN’s political direction in Melaka, particularly as negotiations and preparations among the competing coalitions continue.
