A Malaysian student was reportedly left shocked after discovering that his university offer had already been rejected online, despite allegedly never making the decision himself.
The incident gained attention on Threads after a user claimed that her friend had received an offer to study at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Puncak Alam through the UPU system. However, the student was unable to accept the offer because it had apparently already been marked as rejected.
According to the Threads post, the student had been occupied with work and had not yet logged into the system to respond to the university offer. When he eventually accessed the platform, he was reportedly surprised to find that the offer had already been turned down.
The user alleged that the student’s former girlfriend was responsible for rejecting the offer, despite the student supposedly not knowing that she had access to his IC number. She further claimed that the rejection process required the applicant to provide a reason, with “financial problems” allegedly selected in this case.
The allegation sparked a wave of discussion online, with many users questioning how another person could allegedly gain access to the system and make a significant education-related decision on behalf of an applicant. Some also stressed that the identity of the person who rejected the offer had not been independently verified based solely on the viral post.
Others urged the student to contact the relevant authorities and institutions, including the police, UPU, UiTM’s admissions division and CyberSecurity Malaysia. Several commenters also called for stronger authentication measures, such as additional passwords or identity verification, before applicants are allowed to accept or reject university offers.
The incident also prompted reminders about the importance of safeguarding sensitive personal information, particularly IC details and passwords, when dealing with university applications and other important online services.
Fortunately, the situation appeared to have been resolved. In a subsequent update, the Threads user said the problem had been settled and thanked those who had provided advice.
A screenshot shared with the update showed that the student had successfully accepted the UiTM offer at 5.05pm on Aug 21, 2026.
The episode has since served as a cautionary reminder for students to monitor their application accounts closely and keep their personal credentials secure. At the time of the update, the original Threads post had reportedly attracted more than 435,000 views and thousands of interactions.
However, the claim that the student’s ex-girlfriend was behind the alleged rejection has not been independently verified.
