Police have launched a manhunt for two inmates who escaped from the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) in Dengkil, Selangor, this Thursday morning.
Sepang deputy police chief Mior Mohd Nor Azuan Alias said the two men fled from the rehabilitation centre at about 8.40am.
He said police were now conducting operations to locate the pair and urged members of the public to remain calm while avoiding speculation or the spread of unverified information.
Meanwhile, National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) director-general Ruslin Jusoh said the two inmates allegedly stole a vehicle from a village near the rehabilitation centre after escaping.
The vehicle was subsequently located by AADK personnel in Beranang, Selangor.
Ruslin said AADK has launched an internal investigation to determine how the escape occurred, including whether there were any elements of negligence or breaches of standard operating procedures.
He stressed that firm action would be taken against those found to have been negligent.
“AADK will take strict action if any negligence is identified,” he said.
The authorities are continuing efforts to track down the two escapees, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding their escape are ongoing.
