A total of 20 areas nationwide recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9am today, with Sri Aman in Sarawak registering the highest reading.
Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed Sri Aman recorded an API reading of 195, placing it close to the very unhealthy category.
It was followed by the Serian District Police Headquarters (173), Sarikei (153), Miri (120) and Kuching (114).
In Selangor, three areas also recorded unhealthy readings above 100, namely Johan Setia at 154, Shah Alam at 152 and Petaling Jaya at 130. Cheras and Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur recorded readings of 159 and 152 respectively.
Several areas in the northern states were also affected, with Seberang Perai in Penang recording 157, followed by Minden at 156 and Seberang Jaya at 152.
In Kedah, Sungai Petani recorded an API reading of 152, while Alor Setar registered 103.
Meanwhile, three areas in Perak were also in the unhealthy category, with Taiping recording 155, Tasek Ipoh 137 and Seri Manjung 113. Seremban in Negeri Sembilan recorded a reading of 108.
Despite the widespread unhealthy readings, 46 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality while one area registered a good reading.
No areas were classified as having very unhealthy or hazardous air quality as of this morning.
Under the API classification, readings between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 are moderate, 101 to 200 are unhealthy, 201 to 300 are very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are considered hazardous.
