A debt of about RM260,000, allegedly linked to the wife’s relationship with a suspected “love scammer”, is believed to be among the motives behind the deaths of a family of four at a condominium in Desa ParkCity, Kepong, on Thursday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said a note believed to have been left by the suspect, who was also the husband of one of the victims, on the dining table expressed his anger and regret over his wife’s alleged relationship with the scammer.
“The suspect is believed to have suffered financial losses and accumulated debt as a result of the relationship. He was also frustrated because his wife allegedly continued trying to contact the scammer.
“He felt that the situation had gone too far and was ashamed in front of his children,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination on the couple’s nine-year-old daughter was completed at about noon today after beginning at 9am.
Fadil said forensic examination found a five-centimetre stab wound on the girl’s neck.
A second post-mortem examination, involving the girl’s mother, was scheduled to take place after Friday prayers.
Three post-mortem examinations were expected to be conducted today, while the examination of the suspect’s body is expected to take place tomorrow.
Fadil said the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) forensic team would visit the scene tomorrow morning before proceeding with the post-mortem examination on the suspect.
Police also recovered a knife and a pair of gloves believed to have been used in the killings.
“The two items were found inside a drawer in the master bedroom. The case is still under investigation,” he said.
Police received a report at about 3.32pm on Thursday concerning the discovery of a 48-year-old local man dead at the residential building.
Police subsequently went to the unit and managed to gain entry with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Department.
The other three victims were the man’s 47-year-old wife and their two children, a nine-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy.
All three were found with serious injuries to their necks.
The case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code, while the death of the suspect is being investigated as a sudden death report (SDR).
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to establish the full circumstances and sequence of events surrounding the deaths.
