A total of 91 Malaysians remain uncontactable following floods that struck Nepal and China on Aug 26, the Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry said the figure comprises 55 Malaysians in Nepal and another 36 in China, with efforts continuing to establish contact with those affected.
In a statement, it said it was working closely with the relevant authorities in both countries while cross-checking the figures to ensure that no individual was counted more than once.
The ministry also called on media organisations and the public to rely on its official figures when reporting on Malaysians affected by the floods, noting that the numbers may change as contact is restored and further information is received from authorities and families.
It acknowledged growing concern over the limited personal information available about Malaysians who remain uncontactable.
However, the ministry said details involving individual cases were being communicated directly to verified immediate family members in accordance with established consular procedures.
Consular officers have contacted all verified next of kin whose contact details were available to provide updates on the latest situation.
The ministry stressed that personal information would not be disclosed publicly without the consent of the affected families.
It said the safety and welfare of Malaysians reported missing or uncontactable, together with the privacy of their families, remained its highest priority.
“The ministry therefore urges all parties to respect the privacy of the affected families and to rely on official information as consular efforts continue,” it said.
Immediate family members who have yet to provide their contact details have been urged to reach the ministry’s 24-hour Operations Room to facilitate assistance and coordination.

Families may also contact the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu at mwkathmandu@kln.gov.my or the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing at mwbeijing@kln.gov.my, with a copy sent to the ministry’s Operations Room.
As authorities continue search and consular efforts, the ministry said the number of Malaysians still uncontactable could be updated as new information becomes available.
