Authorities are investigating an incident involving a pet dog that attacked a stray dog in Tanjung Bungah after footage of the incident went viral on social media.
The Veterinary Services Department (DVS) is leading the investigation, while the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has captured the pet dog involved in the attack.
MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran said the council received a complaint regarding the incident, which occurred on August 29.
Following checks, authorities found that the mixed-breed pet dog involved had a valid licence.
“The complaint has been referred to the DVS for further investigation under the Animal Welfare Act,” he told the New Straits Times.
The investigation is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and whether any further action should be taken against the dog’s owner under existing animal welfare regulations.
