Police arrested nine Bangladeshi men after they failed to produce valid travel documents while travelling in a Perodua Alza along Jalan Kuala Lah, Gua Musang, yesterday.
Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the nine men were detained at around 11.30am.
He said a team from the Bertam Police Station spotted the white vehicle parked suspiciously by the roadside and proceeded to conduct a check.
Further inspection found that all nine individuals were unable to produce passports or other documents proving that they had legally entered and were permitted to remain in Malaysia.
“All the individuals were detained to assist with investigations. The case is being investigated under Sections 55E, 15(1)(C) and 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155),” he said when contacted today.
Sik said police were conducting further investigations to determine the immigration status of all nine individuals and identify whether other parties were involved.
He added that enforcement operations would continue against anyone found to have violated Malaysian laws.
The public were also urged to channel information regarding activities involving undocumented migrants to the authorities.
