A three-year-old boy died after falling from Victoria Bridge in Enggor here on Monday evening.
The victim, Abdul Rafee Abdul Halim, was found beneath the bridge at about 6.30pm before being rushed to Kuala Kangsar Hospital. He was later pronounced dead at around 7.40pm.
Sungai Siput district police chief Superintendent Charan Ai Wan said the boy had been walking along the bridge while holding his father’s hand before he ended up beneath the approximately five-metre-high structure.
“After the incident, the victim’s mother, who was at the scene, saw her son on the road below the bridge.
“The family then brought him to Kuala Kangsar Hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced dead at about 7.40pm,” he said.
The victim was reportedly the fifth of five siblings. His family, who are from Kluang, Johor, had travelled to Kuala Kangsar for a holiday and visited Victoria Bridge as part of their trip.
Following the incident, the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council placed warning tape around the bridge as a safety precaution.
The incident serves as a reminder for visitors to remain especially vigilant around elevated structures and other potentially dangerous areas, particularly when travelling with young children.
