Three men, including two Filipino nationals, have been arrested after allegedly fleeing a police check and driving against traffic on the Linkedua Highway in the early hours of Tuesday.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said the incident occurred at around 2.30am while Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) officers were conducting crime prevention patrols along Jalan Persiaran SILC in Gelang Patah.
He said officers spotted a suspicious Perodua Alza carrying four men and ordered the vehicle to stop for inspection.
However, the driver allegedly sped off and fled before entering the Linkedua Highway against the flow of traffic. The men later abandoned the vehicle along Jalan Suria 2 in Masai.
Police subsequently arrested three suspects, while another remains at large.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a cable-cutting tool and three mobile phones, all of which were seized along with the car.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects may have intended to steal cables, Radin Ramlan said.
Urine screening also found that two of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.
He said investigations are ongoing to track down the remaining suspect and determine whether the group was involved in other criminal activities.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties. Those convicted face up to two years in prison, a maximum fine of RM10,000, or both.
