The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 14-year-old boy believed to have been attacked by a crocodile in Sungai Plaie, Ulu Sebuyau, Sarawak, was suspended on Tuesday afternoon and will resume on Wednesday.

The victim, Mohd Nordin Mohd Othman, was reportedly snatched by a crocodile at around 5.30pm on Monday while loading oil palm fruit onto a boat at the river.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the incident was witnessed by the boy’s uncle.

The first day of the search operation began at 10.30am on Tuesday, involving four boats and 40 personnel from relevant agencies, alongside local villagers.

Search teams covered a two-kilometre radius upstream and downstream before expanding the search area to five kilometres from the reported attack site.

The operation was suspended at 4.30pm and is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, JBPM Sarawak said.
