14-Year-Old Student Gets 50 Hours Community Service For Possessing Pornographic Material

Date:

A 14-year-old Form Two student who pleaded guilty to possessing pornographic videos and images on his mobile phone has been ordered to complete 50 hours of community service.

The Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court today ordered the teenager to carry out the community service within four months, with the order taking effect immediately.

Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno also imposed a RM1,000 good behaviour bond for three years. The teenager is required to observe a curfew from 9pm to 6am and report to the Social Welfare Department (JKM) once every two months.

The teenager was charged with possessing pornographic videos and images stored on his mobile phone at the Criminal Investigation Division of the Batu Pahat District Police Headquarters at about 11.30pm on March 1.

The offence was brought under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of three years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

The case came to light after a police report was lodged by a family member, who alleged that the teenager had been assaulted by his father.

Police subsequently investigated the report and examined the teenager’s mobile phone as part of their probe. During the inspection, officers discovered the pornographic videos and images.

The court also imposed the additional conditions as part of the teenager’s good behaviour order, with the measures aimed at ensuring he complies with the terms set by the court during the three-year period.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Shahzleen Ibrahim appeared for the prosecution, while the teenager was represented by lawyer Tan Song Yan from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).
