Police have arrested a 40-year-old lorry driver following a crash that claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy riding a motorcycle along Jalan Gurun-Jeniang on Thursday.
The victim, Muhammad Ilham Firdaus Mohamad Iruan, died at the scene after suffering severe injuries in the collision.
Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the suspect was detained to assist investigations into the fatal accident.
“The suspect has been remanded for three days from today to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving,” he said when contacted.
The offence carries a prison sentence of between five and 10 years, a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000 and disqualification from holding a driving licence for up to five years.
In yesterday’s accident, Muhammad Ilham was riding the motorcycle when it collided with the rear left side of the lorry.
His 14-year-old pillion rider survived with minor cuts and scratches to his hands and legs.
