A local woman has been arrested to assist investigations into the alleged abuse of a two-year-eight-month-old boy at a daycare centre in the Bukit Setongkol area here.
Kuantan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah said the 31-year-old woman was detained following a police report received at about 10.34am on Sunday.
He said the report was lodged after a video allegedly showing the incident went viral on social media.
“Initial investigations found that the incident is believed to have occurred on August 11.
“Based on the viral video, the victim was scolded, had his hair pulled and his head shaken by a woman believed to be a caregiver at the daycare,” he said.
Ashari said the child was taken to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA) here for further medical examination.
“No serious physical injuries have been reported so far. However, further examination and investigations are still ongoing,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Ashari urged the public not to speculate about the case, warning that such speculation could interfere with the police investigation.
He also reminded the public not to share the video or any information that could reveal the victim’s identity, as the case involves a child.
