Several areas in Peninsular Malaysia are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until 11am today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
The weather warning, issued at 9am on Monday (September 7), covers Penang, as well as several districts in Perak, Kelantan and Terengganu.
In Perak, the affected areas are Kerian, Larut Matang and Manjung, while in Kelantan, the warning covers Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Kota Bharu, Tumpat and Pasir Mas.
For Terengganu, the warning applies to Besut.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that are either imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
The department stressed that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, with each issuance valid for no more than six hours.
Members of the public in the affected areas are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions while the warning remains in effect.
