Kuala Lumpur was shrouded in thick haze this morning, with several of the capital’s iconic landmarks reportedly almost disappearing from view as visibility deteriorated.
A Threads user, @adiazwari_, shared several photographs taken around 8.31am showing the capital blanketed by what appeared to be a thick layer of haze.
In the images, skyscrapers across Kuala Lumpur could barely be seen through the murky conditions.
The user said the Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC), KL Tower and Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) were not visible from the location in Sentul.
“Malaysia is experiencing really bad haze this morning. This isn’t fog. KLCC, KL Tower and TRX can’t be seen at all. For those heading out to work, can you even see the road? Take care of each other,” the user wrote.
The user also suggested that parents with young children consider limiting outdoor activities and keeping them at home amid the conditions.
“I think those with young children can consider taking a break from school and staying home for now,” the user said.
The post drew widespread attention, with other social media users sharing similar conditions from different areas.
One user, @syukkryzo, said visibility and air quality were also affected in Sepang.
“Yeah, it’s the same in Sepang. I just went to KLIA. The sky was still okay, but the smell was strong and came into the car,” the user wrote.
Another user, @enda.nina, raised concerns about her child’s health, saying the child had been admitted to hospital after suffering from a severe cough.
“My child was admitted to the ward yesterday because of a bad cough,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, @awin_halid jokingly described the scene outside as resembling another world because of the poor visibility.
“I only went outside for a while earlier and it already felt like I was walking through a fantasy world,” the user wrote.
A screenshot of an air quality monitoring application shared by the user showed Kuala Lumpur recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 174, classified as unhealthy, at 8am.
