A Malaysian woman has been left questioning the future of her five-year relationship after a fortune teller told her that her boyfriend was not destined to become her husband.
The woman shared her concerns anonymously in a lengthy Facebook confession, describing how a series of events left her increasingly uncertain about her relationship.
She said her boyfriend of five years works in Ipoh, Perak, while she had previously worked in Teluk Intan before moving to Kuala Lumpur.
Because of the distance, the couple already had limited opportunities to meet. Her move to Kuala Lumpur meant they would potentially be living even further apart.
Before relocating, she asked her boyfriend to drive her to Kuala Lumpur, help collect some belongings from her home in Teluk Intan and accompany her as she settled into her new life.
However, she was surprised when he turned down the request, telling her: “My dad won’t let me go to KL.”
The response left her confused, particularly because she felt she was only asking him to drive her to Kuala Lumpur and did not see the request as anything dangerous or unreasonable.
She also began questioning why her boyfriend still needed his father’s permission for such matters despite their five-year relationship, and wondered how his father viewed their relationship.
Things became even more complicated when her father, whom she described as deeply superstitious, brought her to a Chinese temple to seek guidance about her relationship.
There, a fortune teller reportedly told her that her boyfriend was not destined to be her future husband.
The prediction left the woman frightened and conflicted after nearly five years together.
She questioned what their years of love and commitment meant if he was ultimately not the right person for her, but at the same time worried that ending the relationship purely because of a fortune teller’s words would be too hasty.
Her dilemma sparked a strong reaction online, with several netizens urging her to end the relationship — although their comments focused more on her boyfriend’s behaviour than the fortune teller’s prediction.
One commenter said that after five years together, his unwillingness to drive her to Kuala Lumpur and his explanation that his father would not allow it were enough reasons to reconsider the relationship.
Another said that if he was unwilling to help her from the beginning, she could end up being the only person putting effort into the relationship.
A third commenter took an even more blunt approach, saying the fortune teller was “saving” her and describing the boyfriend as another “mama’s boy”.
