Umno Youth will not renominate elected representatives from its ranks who put personal interests ahead of the party, neglect their duties or remain difficult for constituents to reach, its chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said.
Akmal said he would not hesitate to withdraw their nomination for the next election if they failed to prioritise the party’s interests and collective struggle.
“I want to remind elected representatives from Umno Youth that nothing is more important than our party’s struggle.
“Let me be firm, Tok Mat (Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan). If any elected representative from the wing puts personal interests above the party’s, I will not hesitate to withhold their nomination for the next election,” he said in his policy speech at the Umno Youth delegates’ conference here today.
Akmal also called on delegates to serve as the wing leadership’s eyes and ears by reporting elected representatives who failed to carry out their responsibilities or were difficult to contact.
“If any of our elected representatives are not doing their work, are lazy or are difficult to reach by phone, please let us know. We will ensure they are not nominated again,” he said.
He warned representatives not to remain silent on issues affecting the party’s struggle, saying he would take action against those who were afraid to speak up.
Akmal reminded Umno Youth representatives that their positions were made possible by the efforts and support of party members.
Meanwhile, he said the number of elected representatives from Umno Youth had risen from four to 11 over the past three years.
“Today, we can be proud that we have increased our elected representatives from four to 11.
“The number may seem small to others, but it is significant for Umno Youth’s struggle,” he said.
