Serian recorded a “very unhealthy” Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 258 as of 9am today, while eight other areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy air quality.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Sri Aman recorded an API reading of 197, followed by Samarahan at 195 and Kuching at 191.
Other areas with unhealthy readings were Bintulu at 152, Sarikei at 151, Samalaju at 148, Mukah at 118 and Sibu at 108.
Nationwide, 44 areas recorded moderate air quality, while 14 areas reported good readings as of 9am.
Under the API classification, readings from zero to 50 indicate good air quality, while readings between 51 and 100 are considered moderate.
Readings between 101 and 200 indicate unhealthy air quality, while 201 to 300 are classified as very unhealthy. API readings of 301 and above are considered hazardous.
