Date:

A 60-year-old motorcyclist was killed after he allegedly lost control while trying to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road before being run over by a lorry in Hulu Selangor on Saturday.

The fatal crash occurred at about 7pm on Jalan Batang Kali-Ulu Yam, according to Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent M Manimaran.

He said initial investigations found that the victim was believed to have been overtaking a lorry from the right when a pedestrian was crossing the road.

“The motorcyclist is believed to have tried to avoid the pedestrian before losing control and falling from his motorcycle,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

The victim was then run over by the same lorry, driven by a 45-year-old man who was travelling to Penang to deliver goods.

A medical officer at the scene confirmed that the motorcyclist had died at the location.

Police received information about the fatal accident at about 7.30pm through the Traffic Complaints Counter.

Manimaran said investigations were ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also urged anyone with information about the accident to assist the investigation by contacting traffic investigating officer Inspector Khairul Salleh Abd Rahman at 03-6064 1222 or any nearby police station.
