New MyKad With 53 Security Features To Be Issued From Tomorrow

Date:

The National Registration Department (JPN) will begin issuing a new-generation MyKad from tomorrow, featuring 53 security features, up from 23 in the current version.

JPN said the new MyKad represents an evolution of Malaysia’s national identity document, with its design, structure and security features upgraded to keep pace with changing times.

From tomorrow, 40 JPN branches nationwide equipped with printing facilities will be ready to issue the new-generation MyKad, with applications completed on the same day.

“After more than two decades, it is now time for a new generation to take its place, bringing improvements to the design, structure and security features of MyKad,” JPN said in a statement today.

The upgrades include a QR code for verification and enforcement purposes, hologram technology, microtext, ultraviolet security features, laser engraving and a chip with a higher level of encryption.

JPN said the new features are expected to strengthen identity verification capabilities while reducing the risk of forgery and misuse of identification documents.

Previously, the new MyKad was reported to be introduced at JPN headquarters in Putrajaya and 18 selected JPN offices through an appointment system before being gradually expanded nationwide.

The phased rollout is intended to ensure a smooth and orderly implementation while preventing congestion at JPN counters.

JPN has also advised the public not to rush to replace their existing MyKad, as the new cards will be introduced in stages and do not require everyone to change their identification cards at the same time.
