Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak can continue contributing his ideas, views and experience to the country while serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, Pas said.
Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the party also expressed its gratitude to Allah and appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for granting Najib a conditional pardon.
Under the decision, Najib will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine.
“Pas prays that Datuk Seri Mohd Najib will continue to be blessed with good health while serving the remainder of his sentence at home and believes that he can still contribute his ideas, views and experience for the good of the country,” Takiyuddin said in a statement today.
He said the development was significant not only for Najib’s family but also for Malaysians who continued to remember and appreciate his contributions as a leader who had brought development and prosperity to the country.
“Pas conveys its highest gratitude to Allah and expresses its appreciation to His Majesty the Sultan Ibrahim for His Majesty’s gracious consent to grant a conditional pardon to Datuk Seri Najib Razak,” he said.
Earlier, the former Pekan MP was granted house arrest for the remainder of his sentence, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine imposed following his conviction in the SRC International case.
The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department said Najib must comply with all conditions imposed for him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.
Failure to comply with any of the conditions would result in the conditional pardon being revoked, requiring Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence in prison.
Najib, 73, had been serving a reduced six-year prison sentence at Kajang Prison after the Federal Territories Pardons Board halved his original 12-year sentence in February 2024.
His original RM210 million fine was also reduced to RM50 million.
Najib began serving his prison sentence after the Federal Court upheld his conviction in the SRC International corruption case on Aug 23, 2022.
The Pardons Board deferred his pardon application at its Sept 11 meeting, which was chaired by Sultan Ibrahim. The decision was subsequently made at the board’s 64th meeting on Friday.
