A man who appeared to be jogging allegedly tried to open a car door before entering several residential compounds around Persiaran Balau, Setapak, according to a Threads user.
User @mrstirfriedd said the incident happened while he was resting in his car after being caught in traffic, when he noticed the man, described as a foreigner, attempting to open the rear door of his vehicle.
He said the car was locked and its engine was still running, allowing him to drive away after realising what was happening.
“Luckily, my car was locked and the engine was running, so I drove away,” he said.
According to the post, the man had earlier been seen attempting to enter the compound of the user’s relative before approaching several neighbouring houses.
The user said the man ran away quickly when he tried to record his face, describing him as running “really fast like Usain Bolt” before taking a narrow road.
He subsequently urged residents in the area to remain alert and seek help from security patrols if necessary.
The post prompted reactions from other social media users, with some claiming they had also spotted the same man in the area.
User @sOleepy claimed to have seen him near the Setapak police station, saying he was wearing the same trousers and carrying a water bottle while attempting to board a bus that did not stop for him.
Another user, Mastura Khairuzaman, said the incident served as a reminder to keep car doors locked and teach children to do the same.
“It’s scary… you never know what might happen. This is dangerous,” she said.
