Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s family has yet to pay the RM50 million fine imposed as a condition of his conditional pardon, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said.
Speaking to Berita Harian, Dusuki said the payment must be made at the Kuala Lumpur High Court registry as the case was originally heard there.
“As of now (yesterday), Datuk Seri Najib’s family has not paid the fine,” he said.
He added that the timing of Najib’s transfer to house arrest could not be confirmed even after the payment was made, saying the process “may take some time”.
Dusuki said the RM50 million amount was determined under the prerogative powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.
He added that the Prisons Department would provide details on the conditions of Najib’s detention.
The Prisons Department had earlier said it was awaiting official written notification of the conditional pardon before determining the next steps to execute the order.
Najib was granted a conditional pardon on Sept 18, allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine.
Meanwhile, Najib’s lawyers from Shafee & Co said most of his assets, bank accounts and properties remain subject to freezing orders and government enforcement action.
The firm said the disposal of those assets was not entirely within Najib’s control, meaning his ability to pay the RM50 million fine partly depended on matters beyond his control.
