All DAP leaders holding government positions, including ministers and deputy ministers, should resign if they genuinely disagree with the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, said Parti Bersepakat Hak Rakyat Malaysia (Urimai) president Dr P. Ramasamy.
Ramasamy questioned why DAP had only offered the resignation of its secretary-general Anthony Loke as Transport Minister following the party’s discussions on Najib’s conditional pardon.
“Why is only one leader, Anthony Loke, resigning? Where are DAP’s principles on this issue? If they disagree with the pardon given to Najib, then all of them should resign. Don’t create more ‘drama’,” he told Utusan Malaysia.
Loke had offered to step down as Transport Minister after the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) discussed the decision to grant Najib a conditional pardon.
However, the Seremban MP said his resignation would only involve himself, while DAP’s other ministers and deputy ministers would remain in the Unity Government to ensure political stability.
Ramasamy, a former DAP leader, also said the party needed a change in leadership to make its position clearer on whether it intended to remain in the government.
He claimed the current leadership was unable to fully determine the party’s direction because individual leaders were also having to protect their own interests.
