The Transport Ministry (MoT) will use part of the RM91.21 million raised through the bidding of the H Series Special Registration Numbers (NPI) to assist taxi and rental car drivers nationwide next week.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the initiative was appropriate as the H series was originally designated for taxi registrations.
He said the bidding had also set a new record for the highest revenue collected by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) from a single registration number series through the JPJeBid system.
“Half of the proceeds will go into the Federal Government’s Consolidated Fund, while the other half will be used to finance people-oriented initiatives by the Transport Ministry,” Loke said in a social media post on Monday.
He added that the ministry had decided to channel part of its share towards taxi and rental car drivers following the substantial revenue generated by the series.
“‘H’ was originally a registration number for taxis. With such substantial proceeds, MoT will use the funds to assist taxi and rental car drivers nationwide.
“There will be good news for taxi drivers next week,” he said.
The H series generated RM91.21 million through JPJeBid, with the H1 registration number alone fetching RM10.7 million.
Bidding for numbers H1 to H9999 was conducted through JPJeBid from Sept 16 to 20, with the results announced on Sept 21.
The H series was introduced in conjunction with Malaysia Day and is the final single-letter special registration series offered by JPJ.
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli previously said the letter H was chosen as a symbol of “harmoni”, reflecting the theme of unity and harmony associated with Malaysia Day.
