Perikatan Nasional (PN) has not ruled out the possibility that the action taken against the coalition was driven by a “mala fide” agenda and political pressure from individuals and groups both within and outside PN.
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition took note of the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) decision but disagreed with the basis for the action.
He said PN was taking immediate steps through the available legal process to defend its founding objectives and political agenda, which he said were supported by its members and supporters.
“PN does not rule out the possibility that the action against PN is the result of a mala fide agenda and political pressure that victimises PN from parties within and outside PN,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Takiyuddin was speaking after PN received a notice and order from RoS concerning the coalition’s registration status.
Under the notice issued pursuant to Subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966, PN has been given 30 days to show cause why its registration should not be cancelled.
According to Takiyuddin, the proposed cancellation is linked to a complaint lodged by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) over a PN meeting held on July 16, 2026.
PN also received an order under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 directing the suspension of all its activities until further notice.
RoS has since clarified that PN’s activities have been suspended and that the coalition has not yet been deregistered.
“PN takes note of the RoS decision but disagrees with the basis of the decision and is taking immediate steps through the available legal process to defend its founding objectives and political agenda,” Takiyuddin said.
He said the two documents were handed to PN on Sept 22 and Sept 23 respectively.
Takiyuddin also noted that the documents were received around the same time as the announcement and enforcement of the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly ahead of the state election.
The development follows a complaint lodged by Bersatu with RoS over claims that the party was excluded from the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16, as well as questions surrounding its membership status within the coalition.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had previously urged RoS to make an immediate decision on the complaint, saying the party had raised eight matters it alleged had been breached by PN leaders.
