A student has been detained to assist police investigations into the death of a Form Two student at a school in Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) was investigating the case, with the Education Ministry and the school providing full cooperation to ensure the probe was conducted thoroughly and transparently.
“I have been informed that a student has been detained to assist in the investigation,” she said in a statement on Saturday (Sept 26).
Fadhlina said she visited the school on Saturday morning and met school staff, officers from the District Education Office (PPD), the state Education Department (JPN) and police to seek clarification on the incident and the measures taken so far.
She also visited the deceased’s family at the hospital to personally convey her condolences over the loss.
“The entire Education Ministry community extends its condolences to the family of the deceased,” she said.
Fadhlina said the ministry would conduct a comprehensive review of safety measures and compliance with existing procedures at the school. She has also instructed the Education Inspectorate to immediately carry out an audit to identify any non-compliance.
She stressed that no one would be protected if the investigation found evidence of misconduct or breaches of the law, with appropriate action to be taken based on the findings and prevailing laws.
The Education Ministry has also provided counselling and psychosocial support to the deceased’s family and members of the school community affected by the incident.
“In this difficult time, our priority is the family of the deceased. The Education Ministry will provide full cooperation to the PDRM investigation and ensure the welfare of the school community continues to be protected,” she said.
