Kota Kinabalu Mayor Denies Appointing Daughter To CEO Role In Vehicle Auction Company

Date:

Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah has denied claims that he appointed his daughter, Sharinaz, as the chief executive officer (CEO) of a company allegedly tasked with auctioning unclaimed vehicles seized by City Hall (DBKK).

Sabin said he had never appointed his daughter to such a position and stressed that the company in question was not under DBKK.

“I have never appointed (my daughter) Sharinaz as the CEO of that company. That company is not under DBKK as well,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 1).

The allegations surfaced on social media after Sabin announced on Sept 29 that vehicles towed for parking offences could be forfeited and auctioned if their owners failed to claim them within 30 days.

Following the announcement, claims circulated online alleging that Sharinaz had been appointed CEO of a company responsible for auctioning the vehicles.

There was no immediate confirmation that the alleged company exists.

Sabin said the allegations had tarnished his personal image as well as the reputation of DBKK.

He said police reports had been lodged against social media pages that allegedly spread the information and expressed hope that police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would investigate the matter.

“Any information relating to DBKK must be verified with our officials before they are shared,” he said.
