17-Year-Old Allegedly Kills Mother With Spanner After She Opposed Gender-Affirming Surgery

Date:

A 17-year-old boy has allegedly killed his mother with a spanner after she opposed his plans to undergo gender-affirming surgery, according to police.

The teenager, who was assigned male at birth and reportedly identifies as female, allegedly attacked his mother at their home on Thursday following a heated argument over the issue.

Police said the family had struggled to accept the teenager’s gender identity and had previously sought medical assistance and arranged counselling sessions in an effort to support him.

However, disagreements over his desire to undergo surgery reportedly continued between the teenager and his mother.

According to police, the teenager approached his mother on Thursday carrying a spanner. His mother again advised him to seek medical and psychological treatment and counselling instead of undergoing surgery.

The advice allegedly triggered an argument that escalated, with the teenager reportedly striking his mother several times on the head with the spanner.

The woman died at the scene.

After the incident, the teenager allegedly contacted police and informed them about what had happened. Officers from Naka Hindola Police Station arrived at the flat and found the woman dead, while the teenager was still at the scene.

Police said the teenager admitted his involvement during questioning and provided details about the incident. Officers also seized the spanner believed to have been used in the attack, along with other evidence.

Police station chief Vivek Kumar Chaudhary said questioning also revealed that the teenager had used ChatGPT to search for information about legal procedures after committing the alleged killing.

The searches reportedly included questions about police procedures, possible punishment for juvenile suspects and where minors would be placed after being detained.

Chaudhary said the family had previously arranged for the teenager to receive medical attention and counselling.

“He had already accepted his identity as a female and wanted the world to accept him as such,” he said.

According to the police officer, the teenager’s desire to undergo gender-affirming surgery had been a longstanding source of conflict between him and his mother.

He added that the teenager preferred to be alone and was uncomfortable with physical contact from his parents, including gestures of affection.

The teenager’s father had previously rented a separate house for him in Lucknow, with a condition that family members would not visit.

However, his mother wanted him to return to live with her.
