Mother Claims Two Sons Bullied, Assaulted By Students And Teacher At Chemor School

Date:

A mother has claimed that her two sons were separately subjected to bullying and physical violence allegedly involving students and a teacher at a school in Chemor, Perak.

Noor Azwani Ahamad, 43, said she first lodged a police report on August 4 concerning her eldest son, followed by another report on August 6 involving her younger son.

She said she lodged fresh reports on October 3 after she felt no satisfactory action had been taken following the initial reports.

According to Noor Azwani, the incidents left her younger son so concerned about his safety that he left the school hostel in August and now travels to school daily.

“As a single mother who works, it is difficult for me to travel back and forth to send my children to school. However, I have no choice because I am worried the same incidents could happen again, especially as the students and teacher allegedly involved are still at the school,” she said.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Noor Azwani said she held the press conference to seek justice for her children and urged the relevant authorities to take appropriate action to safeguard their welfare and safety.

She alleged that her 18-year-old eldest son was slapped six times by a teacher on July 21 after the teacher discovered that he had brought a mobile phone to school.

She claimed the incident left her son suffering pain in his jaw and unable to answer questions during an examination. A subsequent medical examination reportedly found that his jaw had shifted.

Noor Azwani also alleged that her 17-year-old younger son was assaulted by another male student at the hostel at around 11pm on August 5.

She said the incident began after a disagreement when another student allegedly attempted to cut her son’s hair without his permission. An argument followed, during which her son allegedly picked up a fire extinguisher to defend himself before being punched in the neck and face.

She claimed her son suffered injuries to his face and mouth during the altercation involving the fire extinguisher.

Noor Azwani said a meeting was later held between the school and the parents of the other student, but she claimed no appropriate action was taken.

She said both sons had since experienced emotional distress and trauma and were reluctant to return to school because they remained concerned about encountering those allegedly involved.

“I only want my children’s safety and welfare to be protected. I hope a fair investigation can be carried out against all parties involved,” she said, adding that legal action was also being considered.

Law firm Tetuan Syukran Nordin, which represents the family, told Sinar Harian that it plans to file a civil suit against several parties at the Ipoh High Court soon, seeking damages for injuries and losses allegedly suffered by the two brothers.

Meanwhile, Ipoh district police chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah confirmed that police reports had been lodged over the incidents.

He said investigations were underway under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
