A 16-year-old male student was charged at the Parit Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday with raping a 16-year-old female student at an abandoned house near Bota, Perak Tengah, last month.
The teenager pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai during proceedings held in camera.
According to the charge, the accused allegedly raped the girl at an abandoned house near a school in Bota at about 4pm in early September.
He was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor R Jayasri appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyer Nurafiqah Abd Aziz.
The court granted bail at RM500, with an additional condition that the accused must not interfere with the alleged victim.
The case was fixed for mention on Nov 10 for the submission of documents and matters relating to the appointment of counsel.
