Police have confirmed that a fatal crash at Kilometer 52 of the Sri Aman–Sarikei Road today, which killed two people and injured 11 others, was caused when a van exiting a U-turn was hit by a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Sri Aman district police chief Superintendent Dennis Bunyam said two van passengers, aged 48 and 42, were pronounced dead at the scene.
He said the accident, which occurred at 12:07 p.m., involved a Toyota Land Cruiser carrying five passengers and a van carrying eight passengers.
“Preliminary investigations found the accident happened when the van, coming from Kuching, was exiting a U-turn and was hit by the Toyota Land Cruiser coming from Betong towards Kuching,” he said in a media statement shared with Bernama via WhatsApp tonight.
Without giving further details, he said the drivers and other passengers from both vehicles who were injured are being treated at Sri Aman Hospital and Betong Hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
