Government Bans Waze Use Among Civil Servants With Immediate Effect

Date:

The government has banned civil servants from using navigation app Waze, which is based in Israel, with immediate effect.

The directive was issued through an official notice by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, following a decision by the National Cyber Security Committee (JKSN) at its third meeting of 2026, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Shamsul Azri said all ministry secretaries-general and department heads must ensure the decision is communicated to officers under their supervision, including those in their respective agencies and departments, for immediate implementation.

“Any questions or requests for further clarification regarding the implementation of this directive may be referred to the National Cyber Security Agency under the National Security Council, Prime Minister’s Department, which serves as the coordinating agency for this matter,” he said.

He added that full cooperation and serious attention were expected to ensure compliance across all ministries, departments and agencies.
