A businessman with the title Tan Sri has pleaded not guilty to four charges of cheating another businessman, a Datuk Seri, of more than RM10 million last year.
Tan Kean Soon, 62, entered his plea after the charges were read out before Sessions Court judge Azrul Darus on Wednesday.
According to the charges, Tan allegedly deceived Keh Chuan Seng, 55, into handing over RM5.5 million in cash and S$1.5 million (approximately RM4.8 million) through an associate of the alleged victim.
He allegedly misled Keh into believing that he could resolve the freezing of the latter’s personal and company bank accounts by the police, as well as settle a police investigation linked to money laundering offences under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA).
The alleged offences took place at car parks in Kuchai Lama and Dataran Maybank in Bangsar, as well as at a hotel in Pavilion and in Kampung Pandan, between March 23 and 25, 2025.
The charges were brought under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.
