Maid Allegedly Burnt Across Body After Employers Accuse Her Of Theft In Selangor

Date:

Allegations that an Indonesian domestic helper had stolen her employers’ belongings and damaged their property are believed to be among the motives behind her alleged abuse in Tanjong Sepat, Kuala Langat.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the victim was believed to have started working for the suspects around late last year or early this year.

“One of the motives was that the victim was suspected of being accused of stealing her employers’ belongings and damaging their property. Those were their allegations,” he said at a press conference at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters on Friday.

Earlier reports stated that three women were among five individuals remanded for four days to assist in the investigation.

The remand order for the suspects, aged between 20 and their 30s, was issued by Magistrate Maslinda Selamat at the Telok Datok Court, covering the period from Tuesday to Friday.

The alleged abuse reportedly took place on Oct 16, leading to the arrest of several individuals for investigation.

Sinar Harian previously reported that police had arrested six people, including one of the victim’s employers, over the alleged abuse that left the Indonesian woman with burn injuries across her body.

All six suspects were arrested at a business premises along Jalan Merbau, Pusat Perniagaan Oren, in Butterworth, Penang, at about 6.30pm.

Shazeli later confirmed that the married couple who employed the victim had also been detained to assist with the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Act 670).

The victim is currently reported to be in stable condition.
