A 48-year-old man died after being buried in a landslide near a water tank at Taman Kedidi, Jalan Kedidi 26, Pasir Gudang, Johor, on Saturday.
The victim, Jamaluddin Wahab, was extricated by firefighters at 12.33pm following a search and rescue operation at the scene.
However, Health Ministry personnel confirmed him dead at the location before his body was handed over to the police for further action.
The Johor Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre said it received an emergency call about the incident at 10am.
Firefighters from the Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Station arrived at 10.11am and found an adult man buried under the soil.
A search and rescue operation was launched with assistance from personnel from the Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Station.
However, the operation was temporarily suspended at 11.46am due to rain, which made it unsafe for rescuers to continue their work.
The operation resumed later, with firefighters using specialised Paratech equipment, hoes and shovels to excavate the soil and reach the victim.
Jamaluddin was eventually recovered at 12.33pm and pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.
A total of 17 firefighters were involved in the operation, which concluded at 12.53pm.
