Malaysians could be denied access to subsidised RON95 petrol under the Budi95 scheme if their MyKad and driving licence details are not updated and properly matched, the Finance Ministry warned today.
The targeted fuel subsidy programme is set to start tomorrow, and mismatched information could prevent payment terminals at petrol stations from verifying eligibility.
“Based on our analysis, some driving licence records still contain old identification numbers, such as police numbers, military numbers, or outdated IC numbers, which do not match the current 12-digit MyKad format,” the ministry said in a statement.
Motorists are urged to immediately check that their driving licences are valid and that the MyKad number, name, and vehicle class are accurate to avoid disruptions. The system relies on MyKad data to confirm eligibility at the point of sale.
Those with outdated or incorrect records should update their information at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) without delay. To minimise issues, the government will conduct weekly data synchronisation during the rollout of the scheme.
The Budi95 scheme, part of the Budi Madani programme, allows eligible Malaysians to purchase RON95 petrol at a subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre, with a monthly allocation of 300 litres.
The scheme was initially opened to Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients yesterday and will be extended to all other eligible Malaysians tomorrow.
