A 26-year-old flight attendant previously charged with driving under the influence of alcohol has now been charged with murdering a maintenance company supervisor in Kuala Lumpur.
Mohd Iman Nafiz Fong Mohd Sabirin nodded to indicate that he understood the murder charge when it was read out before Magistrate M.S. Arunjothy on Wednesday.
No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Mohd Iman Nafiz is accused of murdering Faris Irfan Fazli, 29, on the Sultan Iskandar Highway heading towards Jalan Parlimen at 4.09am on Oct 24.
The charge was brought under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, and at least 12 strokes of the rotan, upon conviction.
The court denied bail and fixed Nov 30 for the next mention of the case.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry handled the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Anih Rafih.
On Monday (Oct 26), Mohd Iman Nafiz pleaded not guilty to two separate charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, causing Faris’ death and injuring another worker in the same incident.
