A woman in her 20s suffered burn injuries after her boyfriend allegedly splashed her with a substance believed to contain acid when she tried to end their relationship in an incident on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly took place at around 10am, when the victim, who works at an eatery, was allegedly attacked by her boyfriend.
She was subsequently rushed to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for treatment.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat confirmed that police had received a report on the incident and were investigating the case.
He said both the victim and the suspect were foreign nationals who were in a romantic relationship.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident was triggered by relationship problems after the victim wanted to end her relationship with the suspect.
“The victim is currently receiving treatment at UMMC for burn injuries believed to have been caused by a suspected acid attack,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Shamsudin added that the suspect allegedly fled after the incident, with police efforts to track him down currently underway.
Police have also recorded statements from several witnesses to assist with the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
