Nine men have been arrested to assist investigations into the case involving 20 motorcyclists who violently surrounded, punched, and kicked a Perodua Myvi near the Batu 13 Toll Plaza on Sunday.
Serdang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad, said the suspects, aged between 17 and 21, were detained in Puchong and Shah Alam.
“We also seized three motorcycles. The suspects will be brought to court today for a remand application to assist investigations,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
On Monday, the media reported that police were hunting down 20 motorcyclists suspected of involvement in the incident.
During the frightening ordeal, the car’s driver—a 52-year-old security guard—was forced to endure moments of terror when his vehicle was encircled by the group of road thugs.
Muhamad Farid said the victim lodged a police report soon after the incident, which occurred at about 4am.
The case is being investigated under Section 427 and Section 279 of the Penal Code.
In a 29-second video clip of the incident, the victim’s car can be seen surrounded by a group of motorcyclists. They rode close to both sides and the front of the vehicle, seemingly attempting to block its path. One rider was caught on video punching the driver’s window before kicking the door on the same side, forcing the driver to slow down to avoid further harm.
