Syed Saddiq Questions Delay In Corporate Mafia Probe, Demands February Findings Be Made Public

Date:

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has questioned why the findings of an investigation into alleged corporate mafia activities, announced in February, have yet to be made public.

The Muda representative said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had renewed his commitment last week to conducting a transparent and independent investigation led by Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, with assurances that no one, including senior figures, would be spared action.

However, Syed Saddiq pointed out that a similar promise had already been made in February following revelations surrounding a share scandal, which later developed into the corporate mafia controversy.

He said the findings of the initial investigation, also led by the Attorney-General, remained undisclosed, raising questions about how it differed from the latest probe announced in October.

“Until today, the findings have not been made public. If we look closely, the investigative body announced in February was also headed by the Attorney-General, just like the one announced last week.

“What is the difference between the scope or terms of reference of the investigative body established in February and the one set up again in October?

“What were the findings of the initial investigation in February? This is important so that we can understand what happened and take further action through policy changes,” he said.

Syed Saddiq was speaking during the committee-stage debate on the Supply Bill 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He stressed that his intention was not to seek revenge, but to identify past mistakes and prevent similar incidents from happening again, even if those involved were political opponents.

“Muar is not interested in revenge, but wants to know how past mistakes can be prevented from recurring, even when it involves our worst political enemies, through policy changes,” he said.

Last Tuesday, Anwar assured Parliament that the government would not protect anyone involved in alleged corporate mafia activities.

The Prime Minister also pledged to make the full investigation report public within three months, adding that a special task force led by the Attorney-General had been established to coordinate the probe.

Beyond the corporate mafia issue, Syed Saddiq also raised concerns over what he described as political mafias, an issue he claimed was rarely discussed openly despite their alleged presence.

He alleged that political intimidation had been taking place for decades, particularly against political rivals whenever there was a change of government, regardless of who held the prime minister’s post.

“When support is lacking, some people are threatened, prompting them to switch their allegiance. This is not a new political trend; it has been going on for decades.

“When the government changes, old files containing alleged offences are revived, even if the cases date back 10 to 20 years, to ensure political support remains strong,” he said.

Syed Saddiq warned that without transparent investigations, corporate and political mafias could continue operating whenever a new government or prime minister takes office.

He said the alleged culture of political intimidation risked persisting regardless of who was leading the country.
