Education Officer Killed After Hilux Allegedly Cuts Into His Lane On PLUS Highway

Date:

An education officer was killed after his motorcycle collided with a Toyota Hilux believed to have suddenly switched lanes along the North-South Expressway (PLUS) heading south on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, Mohammad Fauzee Azmi, 39, was reportedly on his way to pick up his child from school when the crash occurred at KM282.4.

The incident went viral on social media after a video emerged showing the Toyota Hilux apparently moving into the right lane abruptly before colliding with the victim’s motorcycle.

Nilai district police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said the accident happened at about 3.05pm and involved a Toyota Hilux and a Yamaha XMax motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations found that both vehicles were travelling from Putrajaya towards Seremban.

“The Toyota Hilux was travelling in the second lane from the right, while the Yamaha XMax was in the far-right lane,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Johari said the four-wheel-drive vehicle allegedly made a sudden move into the right lane upon reaching the location, resulting in a collision with the motorcycle.

The victim sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Toyota Hilux driver, a man in his 40s, escaped without injuries but was arrested to assist with investigations. His urine screening test returned negative.

Johari said the man had been remanded for three days, from November 5 to 7, to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Members of the public with information about the accident are urged to contact the Nilai District Control Centre at 06-7904389 or the district traffic investigation officer, Inspector Zakaria Mohamad Jais, at 019-6990142.
