Wan Saiful Tells Attorney-General To Quit If Unwilling To Implement Agong’s Decree On Najib

Date:

Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar should resign if he is unwilling to carry out the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree concerning former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s house arrest, Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) vice-president Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has said.

Wan Saiful described the Attorney-General’s decision to seek clarification over the order as unreasonable, claiming it was an attempt to delay its implementation.

He argued that Mohd Dusuki, who is also a member of the Pardons Board, should have raised any concerns or uncertainties during the board’s meeting instead of bringing them up after a decision had been made.

The Wawasan election director for the Melaka State Election questioned whether the Attorney-General was genuinely prepared to implement the King’s decree.

“Why is it unreasonable? Because the Attorney-General sits on the Pardons Board. If he was confused or felt there was any ambiguity that needed clarification, he should have asked during the board meeting.

“Why wait until the meeting is over before thinking about it? He cannot treat this as an afterthought. To me, this is simply an attempt to delay the implementation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree,” he told reporters at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) operations room for the Kesidang state constituency on Saturday.

Wan Saiful also revealed that police reports had been lodged by PN’s Kesidang candidate Albert Kok and the constituency’s media director Albert Tei over alleged insults against the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in connection with Najib’s house arrest order.

He claimed the latest development was not the first instance of what he considered inappropriate conduct towards the royal institution.

He urged the Attorney-General to step down if he believed the King’s decree could be disregarded.

“If he is prepared to challenge even the Agong, he should resign. He should not continue holding the position and become a puppet for anyone exploiting the institution for their own interests,” he said.

Wan Saiful also compared the controversy with the royal pardon granted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, claiming there had been no similar questions or delays when it was implemented.

He questioned why a different approach was being taken in Najib’s case, arguing that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s pardoning powers should be respected regardless of who benefited from them.

“If Datuk Seri Anwar now suddenly says he disagrees with the Agong’s power to grant pardons or order house arrest, then he should also have questioned it when he was released from prison.

“When it happened to him, he said ‘Alhamdulillah’. When it happens to someone else, he says ‘na’uzubillah’. That is not right. This is hypocrisy at an extraordinary level displayed by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.

He stressed that disagreements over Najib’s proposed house arrest should not be used as a reason to disregard the King’s decree.

Wan Saiful said all parties, including the government, must uphold the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers, echoing a position previously expressed by Wawasan president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

“Whether you agree or disagree with Datuk Seri Najib being placed under house arrest is a separate matter. Some may be unhappy or uncomfortable with it, but nobody should take the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree lightly,” he added.
