A shocking case has emerged in Tamil Nadu, India, where two police officers stationed in Tiruvannamalai district were accused of gang-raping a 26-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh on the night of September 29, allegedly committing the assault in front of her mother.
According to reports by NDTV and The Indian Express, the accused officers have been identified as D. Sureshraj and P. Sundar. That night, the two policemen stopped the woman and her mother—who were pushing a fruit cart—under the pretext of a “routine check.” They then forcibly took the woman to a secluded location and assaulted her, while her mother tried to intervene but was forced to witness the entire ordeal.
The case has sparked widespread outrage locally. As reported by The Times of India, the Tamil Nadu government stated that, given the seriousness of the allegations and the fact that the accused are police officers, both men were immediately dismissed from service even before the completion of an internal inquiry, as a show of zero tolerance.
The two officers are now in custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
