A Chinese woman recently shared an unusual experience online, leaving many netizens baffled. Her boyfriend allegedly offered her a job with a monthly salary of 6,000 yuan (around RM4,000) but demanded she hand over her first month’s pay upfront to buy a graphics card. Many commenters questioned the nature of their relationship, asking, “Is he really your boyfriend or just an agent?”
The woman, a recent university graduate, had been working at a milk tea shop earning 3,000 yuan per month (about RM2,000) with meals and accommodation included. The new job, which her boyfriend claimed was at his cousin’s company, required a college degree and fluent English to communicate with foreign clients. The position promised a 6,000 yuan monthly salary after a one-week trial. However, the boyfriend insisted she give him her first month’s salary, claiming it was needed to purchase a graphics card.
Chat logs shared online show the woman expressing uncertainty about the job details. Her boyfriend reportedly told her it was simple and that she would go for an interview the next day and start immediately.
The post quickly went viral, with many netizens leaving skeptical comments: “Are you sure he’s your boyfriend?” “Honestly, you might need more than a good-paying job—you need a proper partner,” and “It feels so strange, there’s nothing in this interaction that resembles a romantic relationship.” Others questioned, “Is he a boyfriend or some kind of recruiter?”
